I had been toying with reading some of Brandon Sanderson's other stuff since reading his first foray into the "Wheel of Time" and I recently picked up the "Mistborn" trilogy, and now this. I think I see a theme so far - a particular fascination with coming up with different ways to do "magic", and defining very clear rules for them. It's as if you can have magic, but it can't be the "and then a miracle happened" kind. Oddly, this is making me think of Terry Pratchett as I write, because although his stories are very different, they are all about action and reaction be it from a magical or a moral point of view. Anyway, enough meandering.

This story is fascinating. It has a pretty original kind of "magic", which engenders "gods" under certain circumstances, and creates a very powerful nation that chooses to worship said "gods". The story centers (mostly) around two princesses from a small neighboring nation, one of whom was trained all of her life to become the bride of the head god in an act of appeasement, and her sister who was not. It all begins to get interesting when they are switched at the last moment.

The other key character is Vasher, who opens the story and we quickly realize is not all he seems. It takes a long time to figure out exactly who he is, but then what would be the fun if it were given away early in the plot?

My key points are that I have found Brandon Sanderson's own novels to be very engaging. The characters are all very well realized and absorbing, and the concepts and scenarios are new and refreshing to me, who has seen a lot of fantasy if I do say so myself. I might add that it was the author's breath of life (sorry Robert Jordan) to the Wheel of Time that attracted me to him, and I have not been disappointed.

Zathura, a beautifully illustrated picture book Science Fiction

Zathura is a rare picture book of science fiction, then one of the most interesting reading, continuations Allsburg of his idea of a board game which causes real-world effects. In Zarthura a little brother play the game, which is located under a tree. The board sends the boy and his older brother and his home in the room where the cards are real difficulties. If her for the role of a meteor shower hits of his house when they are attacked by space pirates inAlien Invasion game in their home.

A funny story with a little 'Zathura good hour challenge is a must read.
Illustrated in black and white ticking like the sound of a distant TV residue of the Big Bang that the universe of this picture book is created, a series of double, opening with an angry older brother and little brother wounded, and a mother who developed scold the older brother and say goodbye. Mothers face is only the back of the head is hidden, as they saw the picturesthe image on it is only an object of definition in this story, a fact to say that parents often framing the objects around and have in common seems to be the world of childhood, but not necessarily an impediment, not the least in the hyper-real world created Allsburg.

In the background a ship that allows us to see the interest in space, which will lead to other problems later. The picture book is the older brother pushed the younger brothers from the nose through the parkthe lower left corner of the double page, you can see the board game Jumanji.

Allsburg is able to separate the brothers in the images throughout the book, from a distorted perspective and objects. In one picture, the elder brother is sitting on a big chair, his face distorted by perspective. The younger brother is facing away from him in a hidden corner in his little world. In another image, the body acts as a barrier to brothers who revolve, of course, on its face,is a power up perspective, but it is connected with his body visually separated from him, which stuck with her pictures, holding the younger brother still in his little world.

It is not until by robots and many other things that we see how they are connected in the same context, attacked, like sitting at stake in order to attack the space pirates.
You should connect visually and emotionally to each other as brothers, at the end of the book as well as connectedgo home, the younger brother of knowing exactly no memory of what happened, and the oldest, what had happened. Although this last photo, only a small part of the structure, which in this picture is just a small part of the wider universe.

A science fiction Modern Classic

I'm a fan of science fiction since the movie Star Wars came from. I also saw a fan of Kevin Spacey, the film were the usual suspects. So when I have the Sci-Fi movie K-Pax with Spacey, I felt, I knew I had observed.

It turns out that the movie K-Pax is based on the novel, Brewer. It is the story of an alien named Prot, space and time travel. He comes to earth and lands are in the Manhattan PsychiatricInstitute.

Of course, nobody believes that Prot is an alien. But then Dr. Powell found with knowledge Prot surprised by how fast to travel at speed then the speed of light. Prot also has a surprising knowledge of the constellations and shows where the planet is in every detail. This makes it all begin to wonder where this is really Prot, and how functions have this capability. In the film, played by Kevin Spacey is Prot and the doctor is played by JeffBridges.

This story is both funny and touching. You really appreciate the wonders and magic of this world we live in I found that reading the book or see the movie is not the only way to enjoy K-Pax. A good way to enjoy K-Pax, is heard as an audio book.

Audio books are great for everyone. You can enjoy almost any time. They are listening, as you drive, take the train, walk the dog, or just sit in large only around the house. My personalfavorite time to listen to audio books while driving to work or travel.

Today is the best way is to get an audio book download from the Internet. Audiobooks as MP3 files can be played on computers that can be burned to a disc or downloaded to an iPod loaded. Audiobooks for download from the Internet at prices much better, then buy pre-packaged as audio books on CD.

K-Pax is definitely a great modern classic sci-fi would be a welcomeEdition to any collection. And not just for fans of science fiction, history can not be enjoyed by Prot

A Galaxy Unknown

Cheap A Galaxy Unknown Discount Review Shop

The tags for A Galaxy Unknown read adventure aliens, epic, future, science fiction, space, Action & Adventure, Sagas, and War & Military. A fairly standard set of tags, but being comparatively tame subject matter has never stopped me from a purchase before and I wasn't about to let it now; and if I were you I wouldn't let it stop me either.
I liked the cover art, and yes I'm one of those. (In my opinion the cover is one of the first things you see about a book, and isn't there a saying somewhere about the importance of first impressions and all that?)
And the synopsis got a chuckle out of me with Gloria's interpretation of Jenetta's battle plan. (Again a little overdone, but why invent a new wheel when you can make the old one work like new?)

These three reasons lead me to the purchase of this engaging piece of work( the .99 special didn't harm it either), and I don't think I could have picked a better introduction to my recently delivered kindle. I started the book just intending to try it out to get the feel of weather I would like the kindle or not, and nine hours later I had just finished the book with two and a half hours left till I had to be at work. Needless to say I enjoyed the book immensely. While allot of the subject matter wasn't wholly original it didn't feel plagiarized or beaten to death by previous incarnations. In all the book just worked as a coherent whole that practically begged to be read.

Now for the criticism. *spoilers*
There are only 3 things that ever really pulled me out of the story.
The first being that the dialog between Gloria and Jenetta seemed to become a little strained once Jenetta became Captain.
Secondly, the conversations that Janetta has with other ships could get kind of jarring with them having to "wait" between correspondences. (I realize that non-faster-than-light communications is part of the setting, but it seems there must be some way to make the long distance conversations not so fitful.)
Finally, at the beginning of the novel it was stressed that Jenetta was such a clutz with little self confidence while in training, but as soon as that first attack starts she is all action. Where did all of those doubts and second guesses go? I realize that all of those battle simulators that she played while in the escape pod could have played a large part in dispelling those doubts, but they seemed to be passed off as something inconsequential when mentioned.

I give this book 5 Stars and recommend it to anyone who happens to find their way to this page.

Themes of Science Fiction Book Reviews - by Asimov's Robot Series

I read recently wrote I, Robot, a collection of short stories by Isaac Asimov in 1950. The film, which held a few years with the same title is loosely based on a few themes of the stories are based, do not follow a particular action in the stories. Although I did enjoy the film, could not, in my opinion, the depth the original script and try Asimov was able to capture and communicate the issues. Asimov's body of work is considered a cornerstone of science> Fiction, and his series of robots is in some of his best work. If you have not read, I recommend you do. And if you do not want to spoil, I order you to stop reading now.

I, Robot tells the story of the creation of a race of robots, for lack of a better term, initially created as a labor force for the people and problems that arise in this race integrated humanity. For safety, each robot is programmed with three basic laws,

A robot may not injure any person orallow, through inaction, that a person is hurt.
A robot must obey all orders given to it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law Protection

Search the whole web of stories such as robots, which are further advanced to interpret these laws and how these interpretations of the world. As the stories toward the end, a handful ofPeople recognize, must be considered the robot more control over the world, politically and economically. Everything has become more efficient. Better rules. Less poverty. The world is indeed a better place, because the robots have become much more advanced and less corrupt than men. In one of the last scenes, we discover that the robot was done intentionally, just to satisfy the First Law. They took control because they know that people are holdingours. However, go to great lengths to hide the fact that they Have taken over, because our awareness of our loss of control would hurt emotionally, and that would be a violation of the First Law. In essence, the men would never have known that were not under control.

Why Asimov is a genius. He understood something deeper about the human race. It seems that we prefer to run our lives, even though we know that its not the best life possible.

If you have children, probablyuses the expression "This is for your own good." This rate is usually from the parents makes the child was not something they want to do, like eating vegetables. The child probably understands that the parent is right even if he does not understand why. But they will fight until they can. Why? Because they are made to do so. You are fighting for control, although this control is to keep nothing later from unnecessary pain and difficulty.

In many ways we have never grownI find this theme in my life. I collected for the control and combat often understand things completely beyond me. So do not call the wisdom or knowledge of records in my life, but still do anyway. I know what it means to trust and see if They would make my life use, but it is still difficult to bring myself to do it. I tend to much more willing to make if something is my idea.

This is what made it great Asimov. In these stories, decided to useRobots to study the human condition. He has woven creativity and intuition of the most fascinating and entertaining stories that challenge us to think.

Cheap Kitty Goes to War (Kitty Norville, Book 8) Discount Review Shop

This was the eighth book in the Kitty Norville series. Last I heard there are 10 books planned for this series. I didn't like this book quite as much as the last book "Kitty's House of Horrors" but it was still an enjoyable and engaging read.

Kitty has a couple problems on her hands. First she is being sued by the owner of Speedy Mart stores after she does a radio show on suspicious supernatural happenings that are going on at Speedy Mart stores across the country. Second she gets a call from the government about a group of werewolves that have returned from service in Iraq and are a bit crazy; the government is wondering if there is any hope for their rehabilitation and if Kitty will help.

Vaughn does a very good job of seamlessly juggling the two separate plot lines. The story line about the werewolves returning from war to be integrated back into society is politically timely and interesting; it is something that is unique to consider. Overall the book was very engaging and well written. I enjoyed the addition of some of the new characters that were introduced with the ex-military werewolves.

The best part of this book is seeing Kitty act on her own and make decisions like a strong leader. If you think back to the first couple Kitty books, Kitty has come a long way as a character and I really enjoyed seeing that in this book.

The majority of the story deals with the ex-military werewolves. The second plot dealing with the Speedy Marts was interesting but I was at a loss at what it had to do with the overall story. It seemed like this second plot might be part of something bigger that we don't fully understand yet. Also Cormac returns to the story, but the direction his character takes is kind of unexpected. I am not sure I enjoyed the character changes in Cormac, but I am sure that it has something to do with the overall story.

Overall this was an excellent installment in this series. I enjoyed it and look forward to Vaughn's future books. Next to read by Vaughn is her new book Steel that is due out Spring of 2011.

Time Travel Science Fiction Stories

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Time Travel has deceived the people for generations. Mark Twain wrote about science fiction and short stories. Physicists real or are reluctant, ambivalent, or support the possibility. tales of time travel science fiction are about as big as Time Cop, The Time Machine Primer and a rabbit in Connecticut King Arthur's Court

A story of time travel has some key elements. Let's start with the most important, the Time Machine.Wells understood the centrality of the machine naming his book after it. What is a story of time travel without a time machine? It is probably boring. Think Terminator. Yes I know, these robots in the future. But it is not just a journey through time in each of the three films after the first few scenes. We never know if it really change the future, we think that we expect. But the sequel never ends do not imply continue.

Compare this to Time Cop, where signs areflit back and forth to create paradoxes and to prevent the story and has a real purpose. Star Trek has some good stories about time travel, but their time machine crashes. It is exactly the same spacecraft to use every day. Primer is an excellent film construction in which the protagonists actually a time machine to use it, and put a time machine to another. Now that the quality of SciFi.

The next important element is a kind of paradox. The time travelers attempted to cause or prevent a paradoxWhat a disaster threatens or impedes. The sound of thunder, the hero travels back in time to try to stop the death of a butterfly. In Time Cop clubs are getting richer off of equity investments. Back to the Future Marty unravels the life and then Ravel.

Finally, time travel stories have a certain tension. Something must be surprising to learn, the story is not what we thought was a time traveler in the past of Leonardo da Vinci. Must be a solution.

Another attempt to build a flying submarine

Boats, planes can fly as U-fiction entertainment in the years have been funded for many. Already in 1960, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea movies and TV series, a sub flying is often used for exploration, in the belly of a big U-boat called Seaview was included.

A futuristic car, two submersible pumps and can fly, is saved from certain disaster in the James Bond films of the genre. Of course, a submarineBecome a plane is still science fiction fantasy, and not all there in the world today.

The difficulty in creating such an invention is why a submarine flying today exists only in the imagination of Hollywood entertainment. require the construction of such a vehicle would be material to meet the unique and diverse needs of a submarine and an aircraft.

Airplanes are designed to be light and lively. U-boats onWeight instead of being submerged in order to maintain as water under pressure to be thin. The differences in the density of water and air, at speed and make the loading of aircraft and submarine design requirements that work against each other in reality. This is because the Navy failed attempt several years ago in a U-boat, the construct can fly.

In 1964, the Bureau of Naval Weapons awarded a contract to Convair to study the feasibility of a"Diving seaplane" which launched the "Sub-level", which was involved in the project. Convair The study found that such a craft is "feasible" and has awarded a contract for the company, but only two years later, the Navy would cancel the project.

However, Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) thinks that the date right now is to have contractors bid on the opportunity to daily reality of fiction yesterday is a modern Hollywood. DARPAhas a budget of between 3 billion and the agency already offers built by defense contractors in response to its commitments Request for Proposal (RFP), a submarine aircraft of the future.

The Defense Agency wants a submersible airplane, which are the main functions of the three platforms could be combined: construction (1) the speed and scope of an aircraft, (2) the ability of a boat, and (3) stealth of a submarine. Combining the positive features of each platform,DARPA hopes to a craft that will significantly improve U.S. tactical advantage in coastal insertion missions to be developed.

The proposed trade would hold eight soldiers plus all their gear and was able to support them in a craft surface float for 72 hours. Would be 1,000 miles and a submerged antenna range of 12 miles area. Certainly it would be a flying submarine to be of great benefit to the use of special forces deployed in difficult and dangerousMissions.

The world is on the verge of a revolution in building materials. Nano-technology research and production of new innovative building materials in the laboratory, which is stronger than steel at a fraction of the weight.

Thus, the right time to do Hollywood science fiction fantasy a reality. In fact, is the latest attempt by the U.S. military to try to build the submarine steering wheel.

Cheap The Waste Lands (The Dark Tower, Book 3) Discount Review Shop

This is a great book! Sadly it is the last great one in the DT series. So my warning to fans of The Dark Tower books is this: DONT read books 4-7! You will be horrified at what King does to the wonderful charachters and world that he has created. But if you must continue the story after 3 then go ahead and read 4. It really isn't that bad but it's sure is no match for 1-3. 5-7 is complete garbage and should have never been written or published.

The Waste Lands is my favourite in the series. I love the plot and the cool stuff that Roland and his "ka tet" find along their journey.
it really is a great addition to the DTs. But once again 4-7 will only dissapoint. Some things are better left unfinished. Mr. King should have relized that when he decided to (SPOILER) put in Harry Potter snitches, lightsabers, and the most annoying way of talking ever in book 5.

This epic series had such momentum and it really is a shame at what happens to the quality of the story in 4-7. So please please please don't read them!!!!

The Door to December by Dean Koontz

Dean R Koontz started his career in 1965 with the science fiction novels, the fans, unless an overwhelming support from reviewers e. In early 1970, he wrote detective novels under a pseudonym was.

As the incredible success of Anne Rice and Stephen King horror into the realm of publishing the book of its kind in occasional part of their own, Koontz combined his background with his science-fiction background to lead thrillerwith a contemporary style of dark fantasy that few others can only infer.

Leads to begin with brutal murders of three men and the discovery of a child of nine years - Melanie - taken by her mother six years ago by his father after the divorce. His father was one of the men murdered.

Dan Haldane is the police officer working the case, and the love that grows between him and Melanie's mother, is as obvious as a trivialSideShow.

It turned out that her father kept a prisoner and his colleagues Melanie in "gray area" - which contains shocking a sensory isolation tank, a biofeedback device and a device of aversion therapy that includes electrodes to the people.

The father and another psychologist at UCLA were apparently conducting bizarre experiments on Melanie.

Melanie is a figure difficult. And 'the central figure of the book in more ways than one, but because of emotional and mentalDamage done by her father, she does not behave or respond like a normal child. There was almost nothing (outside), the reader reason to us, you like it or feel for them. It takes ability to Koontz to bring their life for the reader. We pity her, because given the two hard men (Dan Haldane and a security guard doing).

But Haldane's immediate problem is to find out how the three men were killed. Their bodies are destroyed and divided into many different typesthat challenge the forensic examination. A group of gorillas that he could not do.

Melanie returns to her mother, and follows more problems. More people are murdered terrible, including the owner of a mysterious book and supply store in a classic locked room mystery.

While Dan runs clues becomes a mother of Melanie in a rent and a security guard, he is drawn into the drama. This to me is a tragic mistake, because, as a good guy Melanie protection lasts, he is a clone of Dan

IAssume that most readers find that fundamental truth, long before Dan Koontz But this may be a chain of Rogue sadistic psychologists to pursue and achieve an occult author to government, mind control and the total social slavery to all of us be.

Other shortcomings: I could not believe it would be a child psychologist Melanie mother trying to deal with traumatized daughter alone. Or that they would attempt to put the child under hypnosis immediately, of course, would onlyEscape from extensive experience in a sensory isolation tank. She is obviously so stupid, we begin to understand why blind enough for his mistake was to marry the father of Melanie first.

I could not believe the background of the police. And Dan never seemed constant jokes fun for me. I would always keep his mouth shut.

But the psychology of the dark conspiracy / secret occult / projects of the government was powerful enough for me reading long after I discovered that the "E" wasThis was the murder of people and seemed to threaten Melanie and her mother.

And if I did, I thought it was a threat to herself Melanie. I am not convinced that it would be - have, except for dramatic purposes - since I do not think that a child who had never socialized would feel guilty for the preservation of his life.

Somehow, despite all the shortcomings, Koontz's novels are always worth reading.

Vittorio the Vampire by Anne Rice

And 'to live for non-Orthodox writers, Anne Rice and traditional from all accounts is still usually unorthodox. I mean, how many other women married men gay pick up gay dress?

After the initial shock of learning would become a prominent Christian writer, I realized that in a deeper sense, it is always a deeply religious writer.

He says he wanted to write about vampirism as a metaphor for alienation. But many of his novelsreflect the theme of the Spirit in matter. This is based on the vampire certainly question why vampires can survive like the living dead sucking the life out of the room.

But what was love Interview with the Vampire exception unlikely that arose between these creatures? As Lestat notes, which lasted three formed by himself, Louis and Claudia for sixty years, quite a long time, mainly because it was two gay men and a girl of six years.

And 'more directly addressed inwitch novels and servant of the bones.

By Vittorio the Vampire returns to the theme of love conquering vampirism - or is it?

Vittorio enjoy growing as a native son Italian nobleman, is hunting in the woods around his home country and the art and culture of Florence near the Golden Age.

The details of his childhood and education among the big time again and it seems vividly realistic. Rice has lost none of their enthusiasm for history in the pastCulture, the efforts of all those who have been displaced by the demands of their art to express beauty.

He sees his family of vampires slaughtered mercilessly by the Court of the Ruby Grail - and vowing to defeat them. A revenge that seems unlikely, but following in their footsteps. With the help of angels, it can definitely kill all ... but one.

It's not fair to reveal all details of the end here. But the question arises - if you opt for the evil of the good love, is stillEvil?

Will Victor and Ursula one day bad, despite their existence, through their mutual love of God be saved?

I do not know what the answers are given when Ms. Rice wrote this gem of a book. And that can not give the answer that they would now be explicitly Christian.

And neither answer fits Rice, the writer / artist who brings the world to express how it is.

Science Fiction and Fantasy for younger readers - Part Three - Creating credibility

It 'important that their time machine, method, or device, whether mechanical, magical or supernatural seems even to be authentic and credible, is easily in the mind of the reader. In my workshops on this topic in schools and libraries, most children wonderfully inspired ideas on time travel, but to explain some of the fight, as their machines or processes actually work. Moreover, they are usually traveling very clear on how his character in the past but havebecause little thought of the return journey.

In The Alchemist's Portrait, Matthew is on a trip with his school, the art gallery at the museum. Sinking places his hand on his canvas the portrait of Pietro Mica, a young Dutch seventeenth century, his hand in painting, like quicksand. He may also pass through the frame and actually within the image. From inside, you can see the gallery of the museum, went straight, complete with museum visitors than others, although not in a position to him. From inside the chassis is capable of displaying images from various times when the paintings ever existed in the past and how Matthew is in the image of the step outside, it can be shown from within every step of the historical periods of the frame and running again, not only until 1666, but the French Revolution in 1792, the American Civil War in 1865 and the Russian Revolution of 1917.

Impossible? Maybe, but ifThe process is a way to demonstrate to readers that this concept is described. Although the story involves travel to another world than at other times, I do not doubt that there are four children in a closet and return the magical land of Narnia in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Moreover, the fact that Alice can launch a rabbit hole can result in a foreign dimension of U or a boy flying through the window of the bedroomNeverland of his young friends, it seems quite reasonable in the imagination of young readers.

've Just rewatch every episode on Sunday night, as aired on Lifetime and then when he wrote the blog right away. (Okay, honesty compels me to confess that I have two of them soon because I was traveling and writing, had until Monday morning instead.)

Sixth Discuss your experience as a screenwriter for Cold Stone thanWrite a novel by Vicki Nelson.

Writing a novel is a solitary experience. I walk into my office and I write about six hours a day for nearly a year and then I ended up sending the book to my publisher. write a screenplay is a collaborative experience - all the writers involved in the exhibition hall, entrance hall, the producers, the network entry and, especially, are responsible for entering checkbook. (There is never enough in the budget to shoot all the originalConcept but one could also aim high.) By the book, there is almost no difference between what I have in hand and what you read. But with the script, change is constant. The scripts are not sequential, they are simultaneously so that each script is written before the camera changes to cascade in all following episodes. Peter rewrote lines of dialogue while the cameras are rolling.

I love writing novels, but I had a huge amount of fun writing and I'm Stone Coldincredibly grateful that he gave me the opportunity.

What is the seventh of the paranormal attraction for you?

Originally, I wrote a novel about vampires, because I wanted to go out of town, and do I need a loan. I was working in a library at the moment and I noticed that readers are incredibly loyal to their vampire genre. You can read what a number of teeth on the cover with the hope that something decent so I thought if I wrote a book about vampires,I had an audience. And I did.

8th What has been done to modernize relations Vicki Nelson books for your blood?

One of the few things that actually dates Vicki Nelson lbs total lack of phones and the Internet. Both were added to the show. The cultural references are present - instead of the mid-90s - even though Peter would not let me Coreen say, "Dude." (I will try once again should be able to write another script.)

How is the ninth TV seriesinfluenced the popularity of books out of print? I know that have been reprinted.

The series, in particular the fact that it has been demonstrated throughout life, gave me a new set of readers. Lifetime population usually does not tend, though his fantasy and science fiction and paranormal romance readers "has become very popular in recent times came in 1991 the price of blood - it is sixteen. If, as you might learn parallel parking is could get a driving licenseLicense. There is a whole generation of readers to discover that the books too young to read the first time - and many of them were to be seem a bit 'annoyed at the end. This fall, the new edition of books with DAW Blood Ties tie-in cover.

10th I think that the stories of Vicki Nelson, followed by Buffy's Joss Whedon trend started with a strong female main characters interact with vampires, and told with chunks of humor. Any thoughts onit?

I would be thrilled and honored to be components of a movement that Joss Whedon will be heard - I give the man a kidney if he wanted. Why am I in the middle of nowhere to live, I'm a little touch with what's happening in that genre as a whole, but I know that the paranormal romance novels have one of the main performers competing in the market now and if I was one of the people who took kick you ... Well, it's pretty cool.

11 Anything else you might sayLibrary Community Blood Ties Vicki Nelson on the pounds or series?

There were a number of people who have expressed dismay, the changes were in the books. I would remind them that the books have not changed. No matter, what makes the ties of blood, whether for a half-dozen seasons or running you do it, do not show any effect on the books. Are exactly as they were when I wrote and you can find them at any time. If it helps, think of the show how theseincredible alternate universe that expands the myth, as I wrote, rather than detract from it.

In general, I would say thanks for your support. Libraries rather keep me sane while I was growing up, and thought that my books are now in libraries is one of the best parts of the entire company.

I read the book a while ago, its just taken me this long to write a review on it. Lover Awakend was THE book that decided for me that I will always read any and everything that J.R. Ward writes! This book has so much passion and emotion that it was hard to put down! I love the characters and plot of this book the best. Z finally opening up and Bella finding the One, despite the fact that he is filled with so much hate and turmoil. When these two come together its bliss. I also love the fact that Ward doesn't Fix Z completely, which is reality! Someone who has been through so much in their life isn't going to be completely well just by finding a promise of peace. I LOVED this book. Its the best in the series.

Declination (Right Ascension)

This is another great book by David Derrico. Although this book is a sequel to Derrico's first book, Right Ascension, in many ways it can stand alone - especially the first half. Like Right Ascension, I was reminded quite a bit of the Star Trek series (the better episodes), but this time the crew is split up and they have their own adventures. Each one is dealt with separately leaving the reader hanging on cliffs as the story returns to the other characters and their cliff hanging situation. From time to time, the characters are reunited with each other.

The challenges are once again nearly impossible, but due to strong moral fiber, excelllent combat skills, good leadership and a bit of luck, these challenges are successfully met. Before even starting this book, I somehow knew they would do it, but it was still very entertaining to read how it was done. Although there were a few places in the first book that made me raise an eyebrow, I didn't really experience that with this book. Some ethics and morality issues are touched upon to provide a bit more depth than just space combat adventure story.

This books has left me hungry for more space combat books. Fortunately there are a lot of recent good ones out there to choose from. Despite the cheap price, this book and its prequel compare quite favorably to the more expensively priced e-books.
I gave it 5 stars.

The Top Five Epic Fantasy Series of All Time

There are a number of massive epic fantasy series out there. And many of them are great. You provide us with complex and rich new worlds. And the experience that we have with them for the last years because each series has several novels and some are not added. Here are the top five and not in a particular order.

The series of Shannara by Terry Brooks - Currently, there are twenty books in the series of Shannara, and are divided essentiallyTrilogies. It all began in 1977 with the publication of first book The Sword of Shannara. This series of books is often heralded as the legitimate heirs of the Lord of the Rings. I must be right:) I read the first book when it came out and fell in love with the series. The Shannara books are held all but a lot of time and a lot of different characters you meet. If you are thinking about starting an adventure Shannara you with the first book of the first trilogy, The Sword of Shannara. TheThe second book is Elfstones of Shannara, which is currently done in a major motion picture. The third book of the Song of Shannara trilogy.

The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan - This is a series of books that currently number eleven. The twelfth and final book is scheduled to be held in the autumn of 2009, and Robert Jordan died during labor, but had interviews and work with Brandon Sanderson, who is completely done for him. This is asplendid series of books and is extremely great! The page count of each book goes everywhere 700-1100 pages. I personally devoured the first five books of the series, one after another. After reading the first I ordered the second and so on until the first five. Well written and very complex. Nice stuff but some critical care to keep it open all the time (and for its huge number of page). I would say that this series is a bit 'heavier than the ShannaraSeries. The first book is The Wheel of Time, and the second book is a great fighter.

The Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind - The first book in this series is Wizards First Rule. I read the first three books in this series and enjoyed it. I want to reach the other end. The first book is just phenomenal. It was released in 1994 to critical acclaim. You may have set the stage for the first three novels. It will burn through the first you very quickly. The Sword of Truth Books 1-3: Wizard's First Rule, Blood of the Fold, Stone of Tears is masterfully books.

The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever - Currently, there are eight books in this series and the first book was made into a major motion picture. - Of all the series I've read, this is my absolute favorite. I read the entire series twice. This world is distinguished from others for several reasons. True, it is aFantasy job with all the usual things like magic, witches, great battles and you know it. But it is also very strong balanced by a particular main character - Covenant. It 'a leper and a bit' anti-hero. For part of the story does not believe what is happening and do not want to be the hero. This is a very strong internal conflict in him and is comfortable with the external conflict. The first book, Lord Foul's Bane was released in 1977, the last book in the seriesFatal Revenant is, and was published in October 2007, so be aware this is a great series with another book.

Song of Ice and Fire series by George RR Martin - This is a series of four books and now the first book A Game of Thrones was published in 1996. There are three other books for the prequel and several short stories provided. The fifth book in the series (A Dance with Dragons) should be published in September 2008. This series of books iscontemporary in other series, was launched in 1996 and tends to much more than a medieval flavor to have. political intrigue and maneuvering among different groups play an important role in history.

There are many great epic fantasy sagas, the volumes are many pages and many of them. If you use something tried and true, then each of these five would make a great choice to stick. No matter what you decide for many hours in the beautifulAdventures in strange new worlds and fantasies.

On the flip side of The Talisman(like Jack flipping into the Territories), this book appears to be mostly Straub and I suspect that Mr. Straub's nightmares and daydreams are far more terrifying that Mr. King's. The mystery and the horror are dead on. There is no chaff; only streamlined story that is racing towards a stunning end. I believe this is due to Straub. In fact, I think King should use Straub as an editor because I didn't find myself bored at any point(something I find in King's later works usually the middle). There is a rumor that Mr. King and Mr. Straub would like to do a third book about our friend, Jack Sawyer. I hope this is true and eagerly await it's arrival.

Fantastic Mr. Fox (Young Puffin Books)

Cheap Fantastic Mr. Fox (Young Puffin Books) Discount Review Shop

I read this book as a child and have recently read it again some 20 years later and I have never realized the subversive themes implied in the text. Roald Dahl often wrote disgusting and morbid stories to get his readers to wince at the descriptions, Fantastic Mr. Fox is surprisingly light on the disgusting after the third chapter. Instead Dahl invents a hero who steals from the "rich" "crooks" of Boggis, Bunce, and Bean. He ends his great adventure with a large feast where he shares his food with all of the other ecological refugees caused by the insatiable rage of the farmers.

The major theme of the work, as it appears obvious to me, is that socialism is good and capitalism is inherently bad. I know other apologists of capitalism will say I am reading too much into it. I would say they aren't reading enough into it, which is OK. The capitalists are all ill-formed rich farmers who have perverted appetites and lack all sorts of moderation.

If, as a parent, you wish to raise your child with the idea that taking from the haves and sharing with the have-nots is a good thing, then I highly recommend this book. Fox is a fantastic model of sharing and values. This little book offers a lot to a young reader, especially a good story. But I don't think they will understand the themes until later.

***Review used for both "Ship of Magic" and "Mad Ship" by Robin Hobb***
I read ~The Liveship Traders trilogy MANY years ago; so many that I am unable to write the type of detailed review this series, and its author, rightly deserves. However, I did want to take this opportunity to write how much I remember enjoying this trilogy. I remember being so taken by it that I actually wrote a fan letter to Robin Hobb. It was my first fan letter EVER!

I still consider Robin Hobb to be one of my favorite writers. I've read almost all of her books, and the couple that I haven't are queued-up in my Wish List right now.

I highly recommend any book written by Robin Hobb, but especially those of The Liveship Traders trilogy. I hope you give the series a chance, and that you find yourself transported into her fantastic, new world with it's oh-so compelling characters.
